Processing delays: If the status remains unchanged even after the processing time is over, check your email's spam or junk folder to see if you have missed any updates. If there are no updates, contact the visa support team of the application platform through which you applied.

No, Japan visa status check by passport number is currently not possible. You will need your application reference number and date of birth to get the status.
